Frances Ford Coppola once again proves what a brilliant and artistic filmmaker he is with his latest movie, Tetro. Filmed in the style of the twenties black and white and splashed with a hint of Vaudeville, Coppola captures the eye as well as the heart with this epic story.
When teenage Bennie (Alden Ehrenreich) arrives in Argentina to look for his long-estranged brother, Tetro (Vincent Gallo), he finds not the idolized sibling from his youth, but a tormented and self-destructive soul who has abandoned his brilliant career as a writer. After Tetro rejects him, Bennie risks his brother's wrath by secretly completing one of his plays and submitting it for consideration for a prestigious literary prize.
Tetro is an enrapturing story of betrayal, love, merriment and tragedy. You will meet characters like “Alone”, Argentina’s famous book critic and Tetro’s nemesis. This film is a coming of age story filled with unexpected twists and story plots.
I was completely mesmerized after watching this film, reminded why I love the Godfather sagas so very much. Coppola is one of the best filmmakers in the industry, and I definitely don’t foresee Tetro getting the attention is so greatly deserves.
