loneliness

i pass
like the breeze
you don't even notice
my leaves falling

i lay; spent
at the base
my stems stuck in dirt

but you
leave boot marks
on my underbelly

i was once alive
green on the branch
pouring invisible sunshine
for you to breathe

i whisper
to the wind beg her
to find you again
to turn your head

but i remain
a fleeting after thought

there's a path ahead
it only fits one
i've walked it for miles

exhausted
i sleep inside
the tangled vines
wrapped slowly
around my neck

this is what loneliness
looks like
crushed greenery
sprinkled in the mud

and a thousand footprints
passing unaware
