The Artists Around Us

I am completely intrigued with the Etsy website. The talent and creativity that flows from the artists astounds me every time I get my Etsy newsletter. I keep myself surrounded with creative inspirations that inspire me. By following other artists I find myself pushed forward in my own creative ventures.

I want my living space to be surrounded with things made from someone’s hand, not from a factory or assembly line. I dig through bins at the local rummage stores. I prefer things that have been previously owned. There’s something personal for me in knowing someone once set their dinner plate on the wine colored place mats that adorn my dinner table; that maybe a mother once rocked her baby wrapped in the soft throw on my recliner; that the lamps on my bedside tables might have at one time flickered the same soft light into someone else’s bedroom.

I feel the energies that have attached to them. It also makes me feel good to know that while I’m choosing curtains from the Salvation Army on Sutro Street or checking for nicks on a crystal vase at the Mt. Rose Catholic re-consignment store I’m also contributing to the community and helping fund shelters and food banks. The same feeling runs through me when I am able to purchase an item from an artist’s shop. I know this is their life blood, how they either pay the bills or dream of paying the bills with while flipping burgers or working in an office.

I fell in love with Celentano Woodworks.  He makes small stringed instruments in many different styles. He makes them by request and you can customize yours.

How about the goblin fish?

How about this cat doll from Cimmerii

I fell in love with Harper and Henny's garden rose pillow and this sexy brimmed beany by The Old CrowBird Artist romanced me with this brilliant hummingbird feeder and this adorable She Is portrait from Artilue made me smile.  I could spend the better part of my day browsing Etsy and excitingly posting links of my treasured finds.
